Welcome to Maschenfein, the online shop and blog all about knitting!

We’re all about knitting and sometimes a little bit about crochet. In any case, about wool. A lot of wool. Because we can’t get away from the needles. Here at Maschenfein and on all our channels you will find all kinds of projects, inspirations, questions, answers, ideas, tips, tricks and instructions about the most relaxing hobby in the world. Our extensive and well-assorted store is constantly stocked with very carefully selected yarns, beautiful books, magazines and accessories that we use ourselves every day. We’re constantly packing beautiful patterns to fine knitting kits for you, that will help you choose your next projects, so you can get started quickly. With far over a thousand knitting kits, where you can easily choose your size and desired color, and all accessories, we carry the best sorted, german online store around knitting. Since 2021 we have a small but very nice showroom in Berlin, where we can show you our yarns, models, color cards, magazines and all our beautiful accessories live and in full color. Due to the current infection situation, we unfortunately do not offer opening hours at the moment. But we are looking forward to warmer weather, lower “numbers” and maybe even soon one or another small Maschenfein knitting gathering in Berlin!

And who’s behind Maschenfein?

Marisa, 42, lives in Berlin, is the mother of a heavenly daughter and three children, including one with an extra lucky chromosome. She is the owner and heart of Maschenfein, has been blogging since 2010 and, as a doctor of economics and passionate knitter, founded the company “Maschenfein” in 2014.

Marisa cast on the first stitches together with her grandma Lotti at a very young age. Many detours, the study and the PhD let the needles rest. Until Marisa was finally adiccted to knitting again during her pregnancy with her first daughter. Knitting and creativity then accompanied her through a very difficult time in her life. Out of all this grew Maschenfein. The knitting blog, the best sorted online store she always wished and missed herself, and many more projects around it.

Her first book “Tücher stricken” – a huge success in the german knitting community – was published in August 2016 by EMF Verlag. This was followed by the basic book “Stricken – Masche für Masche”, the follow-up shawl book “Noch mehr Tücher stricken”, a book about sweaters and cardigans “Hygge – Wohlfühkleidung stricken”, a book with children’s knitwear “Smaland – Skandinavisch stricken” and the small, fine reference book “Stricken – Das Lexikon”. All books became bestsellers in the knitting field. Most recently, the bullet journal “Stricken” was also published by EMF Verlag in the fall of 2020.

Sandra, 39, at home in Bavaria, with roots in the Black Forest. Mom of two boys, addicted to knitting and in love with yarn.

Sandra is the first permanent employee at Maschenfein since September 2017, good soul of our social media activities and Marisa’s memory support for all the colorful projects here at Maschenfein. She also designs the most beautiful knitting patterns for Maschenfein.

As an early and loyal reader of the blog, Sandra accompanied the world of Maschenfein right from the start. After passing her state exams to become an elementary school teacher, she turned her back on school in favor of family and taught herself to knit with the help of YouTube videos after the birth of her first son 10 years ago. She is the co-author of three books.

Sandra always patiently answers all questions in the Maschenfein community, and with over 14,000 knitters in our Facebook group alone, that’s a lot. Since she is a self-confessed knitting addict, her closet is filled to the brim with cardigans, shawls and the like, and she knows numerous knitting patterns from other designers.

Sophia, 34, lives in Würzburg, but is originally from Hanover. She is mom to a young son and always has knitwear in her luggage, in addition to diapers and snacks.

Sophia has been taking care of the blog posts and the newsletter of maschenfein.de since October 2020, plans the podcast and thinks up campaigns for social media. Since she discovered knitting after her studies, she has also accompanied Maschenfein – and has already been infected by one or the other project. With us, the trained journalist now brings two passions together: writing and knitting.

Jule, 25, lives in Mainz and started as a working student here at Maschenfein during her studies in Finance & Accounting in August 2020. She loves numbers, but she loves wool even more.

Therefore, she has of course known the Maschenfein store for years. Since February 2021, Jule supports the team in a permanent position. She diligently maintains our backend, assists Sandra in supporting customer inquiries and ensures that our assortment is always presented flawlessly.

Arlene, 30, joined our team in March 2021. She takes care of the homepage and all the damands that a website brings with it.

Together with her daughter, boyfriend and dog, she lives in Oberhausen and is actually a trained restaurant manager. She taught herself web development and has been working in this field for five years. Besides her job, she also has a big heart for books and plants. She discovered knitting thanks to Corona. So far, only Diego the dachshund has benefited from her hobby, but Maschenfein offers the best conditions for her to dare to knit other projects soon.

Louisa, 39, lives with her family near Munich. The trained bookseller is the organizer of the maschenfein knitting gatherings in the Bavarian capital (#maschenfeinsüdrunde) and has long been a model and test knitter for Maschenfein and Sandra.

Louisa has always knitted – but since she discovered Ravelry and Maschenfein, she can hardly put down her needles. With us, she takes care of the translation of the website and in the future the English-speaking support.

Our commission knitters

There are so many beautiful patterns – we can not knit them all by ourselves! But to be constantly able to show you great models and beautiful yarns, we have busy commission knitters. Use the hashtag #maschenfeinesschaufenster to see their work on Instagram.

There’s a blog, too?

Well, actually, the blog was here first. What started as a family and DIY blog in 2010 became the Maschenfein knitting blog in 2014. Monthly, Maschenfein is now visited over half a million times. On the blog we write about projects, techniques, books and yarns, give tips and tricks and hold maschenfein interviews with other knitting-loving bloggers and designers. We are always very curious what their favorite yarns and projects are.

Since we are also very happy in the knitting blogger world and look at what is knitted there so, there is the monthly action on the blog “Auf den Nadeln”, where you can link your current projects and browse through all participating blogs. Join in too!

Especially popular on the blog is our Saturday Net Talk, where we’ve been sharing inspiration from the knitting, crochet and DIY blogging world for many years.
